Vera Biermann

Dr Vera Biermann joined the Centre for Ecohydrology shortly after its inception in 2007.

She received her doctorate degree in Environmental Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin. Her background in water treatment and the remediation of contaminated land and groundwater as well as her strengths in environmental and analytical chemistry and data analysis make the Centre an ideal home for her.

In addition her experience as a presenter of seminars and workshops will add to the teaching resources which are used within the University of WA and in the Centre's key role as a public educator.

Dr Biermann has lived and worked in Germany, Australia and Brazil, and lists her interests as travel, visiting National Parks, basketball, rowing and sailing.

Her initial project with the Centre for Ecohydrology will see her working out of the Albany office on passive technologies for the remediation of acid groundwater as part of the acid sulphate soils project. Dr Biermann will be involved in the design and implementation of reducing and alkalinity producing systems (RAPS) and in-drain permeable reactive barriers (PRB).
