Shi Yuan (Stephen) is interested in
Urban Hydrology and optimal deployment of water resources in
urban areas. At UWA he is working with Ben
Marillier. Stephen's project, titled "Validation of
GeoWEPP in Western Australian Landscapes" uses data
gathered from two catchments in WA to test the WEPP (Water
Erosion Prediction Project) model for validity in the Western
Australian landscape. The two catchments represent a
high-rainfall area and a low-rainfall area. The catchments are
located in the Chapman Valley region near Geraldton. Spatial data
gathered (topographic, soil, climatic and land-use) will be
analyzed using GeoWEPP to estimate hillslope erosion and sediment
yield for small sub-catchments. Modelling results will be
assessed in the field to examine suitability of the model for
erosion hazard mapping.
