Remote Sensing to assess Salinity

Tang LijieTang Lijie (Rain)has recently been participating in a project "Development Monitoring and Management System of Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province" developing geospatial representations of river channels. Within the Centre for Ecohydrology Rain is working with Ben Marillier and Ed Barrett-Lennard on a project based in Corrigin called "Identification of high value areas for saline agronomy in Western Australian landscapes". She is using multispectral classification of Landsat TM summer imagery, vegetation indices and DEM derivatives to map the gradient between healthy cropland and highly saline areas to find areas suitable for saline agronomy.

The images here depict a 543 false colour Landsat image of the study area, followed by a preliminary classification identifying different land covers.
