ARWA Centre for Ecohydrology
Seeking to Understand and Manage Water

Postgraduate Students

The Centre for Ecohydrology accepts postgraduate students with a strong interest in environmental engineering, earth sciences and hydrology.

These students are currently pursuing postgraduate studies at UWA under the auspices of the Centre for Ecohydrology.

GeorgieGeorgie Holbeche is investigating the geochemical and hydrological factors influencing the effectiveness of deep drainage. She is using soil samples taken from six wheatbelt sites including Dumbleyung, Morawa and Three Springs.

Georgie is working with the School of Earth and Geographic Sciences, in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Science at UWA.

Ghazi Abu RummanGhazi Abu Rumman is studying four turfgrass species irrigated with salty water. His research is important to places where water salinity is increasing. His research is funded by Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Grants in collaboration with The Shire of Wagin, Department of Agriculture and Food (WA) and UWA. more»

Saskia NoorduijnSaskia Noorduijn is working with Professor Keith Smettem in the School of Environmental Systems Engineering on a project determining the optimal widths of tree belts and alleys in alley farming systems. more»

Nadia Bazihizina Nadia Bazihizina is studying at the School of Plant Biology, in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at UWA. Her research will focus on understanding the mechanisms and physiological processes that sustain species in saline environment, critical for a sustainable management of these disturbed landscapes. more»

Mark RiversMark Rivers is analysing the movement of nutrients through agricultural systems. Despite the increasing significance of nutrients lost from the soils of urban and urbanizing areas in Western Australia, the loss of nutrients (particularly phosphorus and nitrogen) from agricultural systems continues to be a major concern for the health of regional waterways. This research seeks to improve the understanding of nutrient movement within and from agricultural systems – particularly grazing systems – by the analysis of nutrient transport and storage routes and mechanisms through a number of agricultural properties. more»

Ainalem NegaAinalem Nega is looking at irrigation efficiency in the Harvey Irrigation district. Under the supervision of Dr Kyungrock Paik he will be evaluating the efficiency of different methods of irrigation in use. more»
