Mark Rivers is analysing the movement of
nutrients through agricultural systems. Despite the increasing
significance of nutrients lost from the soils of urban and
urbanizing areas in Western Australia, the loss of nutrients
(particularly phosphorus and nitrogen) from agricultural systems
continues to be a major concern for the health of regional
waterways. This research seeks to improve the understanding of
nutrient movement within and from agricultural systems –
particularly grazing systems – by the analysis of nutrient
transport and storage routes and mechanisms through a number of
agricultural properties.
